The garden fountains
Resistant over time, they can be of different materials and both in stone, bronze or granite, give the garden an aristocratic or old-fashioned look. It all depends on your taste and the other furnishings that the area has. The manufacturers of outdoor fountains are truly giving their all in both quality and aesthetics. On the latter then, you can really indulge your creativity as you will find elements that you never even imagined. There are even fountains that damage the idea of a well even if in fact, they do not have that dangerousness and are structured in such a way as to appear as furnishing accessories that are not modern but of ancient construction. Today the garden fountains have not only the purpose of embellishing but also to be functional to the maximum by carrying out functions for each type. There are granite fountains that also have an additional element capable of containing a climbing plant that climbs along the entire structure of the fountain over time, creating a rustic and characteristic combination of granite and leaves.
What type of garden fountain to choose
As we have seen, there is a wide range of garden fountains. If you want their maximum functionality, you must first decide where to place the fountain. If you need it only for beauty and to decorate the outdoor environment, let's say that any place is fine except that there are the conditions to be able to assemble it. If you want to use it for daily use because you need it to clean tools, to wash various cookware because you love dinners in the garden and want to make the most of it, you should take one of those large, practical, shock and chip resistant fountains. You can have it placed near the gazebo where you organize dinners with friends in a fairly comfortable and close place so that you can move comfortably without going back and forth.Choose one of those fountains with relative support, perhaps not beautiful in their kind but without shadow of a doubt, very practical and easy to handle. Try to install a faucet that does not deteriorate with atmospheric agents, that does not deteriorate with use and with the inexorable wear and tear of time. If, on the other hand, you like the typical bronze wall fountain, opt for those with a flat back that is applied to the courtyard or garden walls with solid bolts. They are stalkless fountains, very graceful and characteristic that usually show a lion's face on the facade from whose mouth comes out an opaque or bronze colored tap. They too are functional without being large in size and even if you can't place who knows what large objects, even this type of fountain can be used with peace of mind. If, on the other hand, you want to do things in style and you need the fountain exclusively for ornamental use, you can have a continuous gushing fountain installed that is beautiful just like the ones you see in the public houses of the towns. They are usually of white granite and are made up of three or more tanks that decrease in size as you go up. Their gush is constant and in order not to overdo the water consumption, you can have a continuous cycle circuit installed. Of course, as often happens, it may happen that you want a unique and very original piece that may not be found in the sales catalogs, In this case you must contact the world of craftsmanship and even if there will certainly be a surcharge on the item purchased, you will have a unique and very original piece is available.
How to assemble a garden fountain
Once you have chosen the place to place your fountain, you need to see if there are the right prerogatives to be able to get the water up to it and make it functional. Let's take the case of a granite stemmed fountain. This, in the rear part of the stem, is equipped with a hole where a polyethylene pipe will pass which will be connected to the tap and to the main water pipe. You can also supply the fountain with a steel pipe instead of polyethylene, only it is difficult to find the right measures and it is difficult to cut and thread. If you do this yourself, contact the plumbing shops who will be able to give you more detailed information on the parts to use. As for the drain, you can create a semi-underground wooden box without bottom with about 40 centimeters of pebbles or you can create an underground basement with a classic concrete pit open on both sides with a bottom made up of gravel and stones. It is necessary to drain the water even if the fountain is used only to rinse some work tools or wash your hands because with use, the soil may soften. If you use the fountain for domestic use such as washing pots or rinsing vegetables, you should have the drain connected to the main sewer because the fountain has a different functionality from those that are used less frequently.
How to do maintenance on garden fountains
The classic garden fountains, as we have seen, are resistant and of excellent material. They hardly deteriorate due to atmospheric agents. However, even the fountains need minimal maintenance so that they can always appear as new. For obvious reasons, outdoor fountains are used much more often in summer than in winter. From time to time in the winter season, check the fountains that may have been covered in the sink, with leaves and debris carried by the wind. These can penetrate inside the water drain hole and thus clog the pipe. Remove leaves and debris and possibly plug the hole. Unless it is a question of those decorative fountains that are located in the center of the courtyard formed by several overlapping elements and that gush, the fountains do not give excessive problems. In the latter case, however, they must be carefully cleaned after having emptied them. Once without water, with a broom on which you have wrapped a rag soaked in an anti-limescale substance. In fact, unsightly encrustations of calcareous elements contained in the water can often form on those granite structures. After wiping with the rag soaked in liquid, let it act for half an hour and rinse with the running jet of a garden pump. And if you need to refill the fountain with water in a continuous circuit, go ahead but add a dose of chlorine or special substances that prevent the formation of limestone and unsightly greenish streaks. Do the same operation on the external walls of the fountain as well, because deposits can also form there. Cast iron fountains are usually resistant to any atmospheric condition but it is a good habit to repaint them if not annually but at least every three years because the color, as far as it may be undamaged to atmospheric agents, fades and becomes opaque. If the cast iron fountain is involuntarily scratched, do not leave it like this, but without painting it, apply a special enamel on the deteriorated parts that you can find in specialized hardware stores.
