Dog breeds: Miniature - Toy Poodle

Origin, classification and history

Origin: France.
F.C.I classification: Group 9 - companion dogs.

The Miniature Poodle (Toy Poodle) is one of the most popular breeds among the high-ranking, noble and royal families of past centuries. These dogs were adorned with bows and jewels and were considered almost as "ornaments" of the house. In addition to being the favorite dog of many rulers, the Poodle was also the dog of many characters who made history and this proves the great popularity of this breed. Given its qualities of temperament, its singular aspect and its strong intelligence, this breed has been the most used in circuses. There are many disagreements about the origins, since the French would like to attribute the characteristic of autochthonous, which is also the hypothesis most approved by experts; the Germans say instead that it is a native Teutonic Nordic breed. There is also the hypothesis that it originates from the regions of northern Italy. The most reliable hypothesis is that the breed derives from the "Barbet". The breed in the old order of 1896 was called "Italian Poodle". In France, the breed is now called "Caniche," from "canard" that is, "wild duck" that was once hunted by this breed. There are four sizes that are practically identical, except for the size.

General aspect

Small, mesomorphic dolichocephalic dog. Classified as a morphologically braccoid type. It maintains the overall appearance of the "poodle", with all proportions, and meets all the needs of the standard. The appearance of the animal is intelligent, constantly alert, active. Its construction is harmonious and gives the impression of elegance and pride. It has a leaping and proud gait. He must never walk with an elongated and sliding step. Well proportioned. The Miniature Poodle must keep the same proportions as much as possible and without presenting any appearance of dwarfism. It is a very elegant canine. It requires careful grooming.

Character

Brilliant and cheerful temperament dog. Perfect companion dog. It adapts to the needs of the family without any kind of problem. Also very suitable for being with children, especially in this size. Dog known for his proverbial loyalty, suitable for learning and being trained, what makes him a particularly pleasant companion dog. In dog shows it is a breed that has won many awards, sometimes exceeded, by its larger sizes.
