F.C.I classification: RACE NOT RECOGNIZED.

The Boykin Spaniel was probably obtained by crossing the American Water Spaniel and the Cocker Spaniel.

General aspect

Similar to the American Water Spaniel. It is used in water as a retriever dog for ducks and pigeons and, for its excellent sense of smell, for research in the woods. Also appreciated as a companion dog, it shows good attitudes also to the guard.


Lively, obedient, docile and sensitive.

Height: it varies from 38 to 43 cm (a little less in females).
Weight: from 13 to 17 kg (a little less in females).

It has an elongated muzzle, with brown truffle; the eyes are yellow and the ears are long and covered with curls; the tail is curved, fringed.
The coat is wavy or curly, waterproof.
The color is dark mahogany or liver color.
