Origin, classification and history
F.C.I classification: RACE NOT RECOGNIZED
The history of the Italian Shepherd Dog begins around 1975, when Piero Accettella (Little Ranch Cepagatti - Pescara Breeding) notes that in Italy, and in particular in the areas of Abruzzo, Marche, upper Lazio, Tuscany and Umbria, there were dogs with a black coat, of medium size, with lupoid traits, which used in the custody of livestock, endowed with a lively intelligence and with great psychological balance, whose origins are lost in the mists of time.
After careful research, he manages to grab some interesting subjects and, to give them a more imposing size, he inserts Molossian blood from Abruzzo.
The result he obtains is very interesting, because on a psychological level, the ductility of the basic strain manages to combine the right mistrust of the Abruzzese, obtaining a very balanced dog, brought for any type of training, but also a tenacious guardian.
It belongs to the group of shepherd dogs (group 1) and is used as a guard, defense and utility dog.
Medium-large sized dog, harmonious in its constitution. Dog that despite the size is very agile and powerful, tireless trotter, constantly patrols the territory to defend. Very rustic.
Adult at four years of age, he has an iron health, very long-lived on average lives 17 years.
Very serious and balanced, he never attacks without reason, exceptional guardian, diffident and biting with strangers in his territory, indifferent and immovable outside his environment (always close to his master). Big tempered dog needs strong master. It adapts to any climate and master who loves unconditionally to madness.
