Origin, classification and history
F.C.I classification: Group 5 - spitz and primitive type dogs.
The Kai Dog is descended from medium-sized dogs that have existed for a long time in Japan. Its area of origin is in the district of Kai, Yamanashi prefecture, a region surrounded by mountains. This breed, to which the name of Kai toraken was also attributed, was declared, in the year 1934, "national monument". In the past the breed was mainly used for hunting deer and wild boar. It is assumed that the pronounced tendency to go molting has contributed to safeguarding the purity of the breed.
Medium sized dog. It is a very well proportioned dog, with a robust constitution and strong musculature. This breed has the typical characteristics of a dog that lives in the mountainous region of Japan.
The breed today is considered almost exclusively a companion dog. At least in Europe it is not used for hunting. In Japan it is still used for its original use. This dog always remains a very appreciable dog from a character point of view because of his docility and intelligence. He is very faithful and cheerful. It is a dog that expresses cheerfulness. Very nice both in appearance and for his behavior. Excellent companion dog for the whole family. He has no major health problems. It lends itself well to live in the home or apartment even if you prefer the outdoors.
