The Kromfohrländer is one of the most recent German dog breeds; it was recognized internationally in 1955. The name derives from the krom-Fohr area in the Siegen region. Among his ancestors the hard-haired Fox Terrier and the Grand Griffon of the Vendée from which he inherited his affable nature, his temperament and his character.

General aspect

Medium size. There are two varieties depending on the coat: hard coat and smooth coat. The length of the trunk is slightly greater than the height at the withers.

Character

Family dog ​​with a lively temperament and easy to educate. It adapts easily to the environment, but is reserved with strangers. His hunting instinct is weak. Shy or aggressive subjects are not allowed.

Standard

Height: from 38 cm to 46 cm at the withers.
Weight:
- males from 11 to 16 kg;
- females from 9 to 14 kg.

Trunk: well developed, but not too strong nor often.
Head and muzzle: slightly rounded skull; no frontal protuberance, frontal sulcus just mentioned.
Stop marked. Medium sized truffle with nostrils well open; preferably black, brown allowed. Musello the ratio between the length of the muzzle and that of the skull is 1/1. The upper lines of the skull and nasal bridge are parallel. Rectilinear and moderate width nasal bridge; seen in profile and from above it tapers progressively towards the truffle. Well applied, not too strong, black lips. The corner of the labial commissure is tightly closed.
Teeth: strong jaws with regular scissor articulation. The teeth are well square on the jaw. Pincer joint allowed.
Neck: well erect.
Eyes: medium in size, oval in shape, slightly oblique; deep brown color, lighter tones allowed.
Ears: hanging high and on the side, the crease of the semi-pricked ear does not exceed the level of the skull. Triangular shape, rounded at the ends, well adherent to the cheeks and carried according to the mood; a slightly floating ear is allowed.
Limbs: Seen from the front, the forelegs are perpendicular. Very muscular shoulders; moderately long and oblique shoulder blade. Very muscular arm, angle with the shoulder blade of about 110 degrees. Elbows close to the body, not turned forward or backward. Angle of about 120 degrees. Forearm slightly longer than the arm, strong, vertical, perpendicular to the ground. Relatively short metacarpus; seen from the front it forms an extension in a straight line of the forearm; slightly flexed seen in profile. Front feet say slightly arched and tightened; strong nails with well developed and dark colored pads; clear nails allowed. Hindquarters seen from behind the hindquarters are perpendicular. Very muscular thighs; angle with the hip joint around 100 degrees. Nervous leg, forms an angle of about 105 degrees with the thigh. Metatarsal similar to the metacarpals, but perpendicular to the ground. Spurs absent. Hind feet as the front.
Pace: loose, active, regular and relaxed. Good forward momentum and good rear thrust; the Krohmforländer loves to jump; never ambitious.
Tail: never cut, of medium length. Strong attachment. Carried in the shape of a saber, a slightly coiled tail is allowed. The hair corresponds to that of the body. At rest the tail hangs with a slight curve at the end. In the nation carried with a sickle on its back.
Hair: hard-haired type. Hair of hard texture, dense, with beard. The length of the hair on the withers and on the back does not exceed 7 centimeters. Shorter on the ribs, about 3 centimeters. On the back and limbs, the hair is harder than on the hips. Longer on face and muzzle. Same as that of the body on the ears. Under short and soft fur. Smooth-haired type. Hair of sweet texture, dense, without beard. The length on the withers and on the back must not exceed 7 centimeters. Shorter on the sides, about 3 centimeters. Hair well relaxed. Longer on the ears, the lower face of the neck and bib. In the tail it forms beautiful fringes. Fine fringes are also sought after on the hind faces of the forelegs and thighs. Short hair on face and muzzle. Under short and soft fur.
Colors allowed: body. White background with light brown spots, ranging from brownish red to very dark brown with spots of variable size. If the undercoat is brown, the slate color is admitted in the tips. The head has light brown, brown to dark brown spots on the cheeks, ears and lower part of the eyes; these spots are largely symmetrically separated by a white list that reaches up to the forehead, but can extend to the nape of the neck (symmetrical mask with white list on the head).
Most common defects: pale colored eyes, too pale brown spots, slate spots in the absence of brown undercoat, absence of spots on the body, asymmetrical design of the spots in the head Upper or lower prognathism, absence of more than two molars or more than three premolars, eye blue, aggressive or fearful dog.
