Breeds of dogs: Magyar Agar - Ungarischer Windhund

Origin, classification and history

Origin: Hungary.
F.C.I classification: Group 10 - greyhounds.

The progenitors of the Magyar agar (Hungarian Greyhound - Ungarischer Windhund) arrived in Europe with the first Magyars, around the ninth century. These dogs remained in their primitive state for a long time, until, in the nineteenth century, they were crossed with the "Greyhound", the very fast English greyhound. It is not widespread, also because many prefer the "Greyhound" to it.

General aspect

Medium sized dog. Morphologically classified as Graioid type. Very slender but strong dog. Neither too massive nor fragile. Dog with longer than square shape. His musculature is well developed. It has a good bone. Very similar, aesthetically speaking, to his English "cousin": the "Greyhound".

Character

Although its appearance may lead one to believe that this breed is very fragile, on the contrary it is very robust. It is far from delicate. Resistant to any temperature change and climate change. Dog that knows how to combine its great elegance with rusticity. It can very well be kept indoors. It is a very clean breed. It also reveals a discreet guard dog, rare attitude for greyhounds.
