The origins of the Little Swiss Hound are common to all the other Little Hounds in Switzerland. The idea of creating new breeds smaller than those already existing in Switzerland came up at the beginning of the 20th century, when the hunting reserve system was introduced in this region. Since the medium-sized Swiss Hounds would have been too fast in these areas, it was decided to create these new smaller-sized breeds. There are several breeds of "Small Swiss Hounds", which differ in the color and texture of the coat.

General aspect

Small dog. It is a "reduction" of the Swiss Hounds. Inscribed in a rectangle, which is very close to the square, of medium length. It is a dog of powerful constitution. Medium sized head. The ideal size at the withers for small hounds is 36-38 cm. The Little Hounds exist in the varieties:
- short, smooth and lying hair, finer on the head and ears;
- hard-haired, lying down, with little undercoat.

And a small multipurpose Hound. Rather robust breed, fragile and resistant at the same time. Very fine nose. Passionate about hunting. He can smell and follow the track while giving voice, with a sonorous and harmonious tone. With a lively and calm temperament. Lovable dog. He never proves fearful or aggressive.
