Origin, classification and history
Origin: Russia - Nordic Kennel Union.
F.C.I classification: Group 5 - spitz and primitive type dogs.
The Samoyed (Samoiedskaia sabaka - Samoyède) is a breed with Nordic origins that are common to other sled races. The breed was selected in absolute purity from the "North Samoyedi" tribe, from which it takes its name. However, it seems that the dog they selected was not white but mainly black. The current white color was born with the modern breeding of Samoyed which began in parallel in Great Britain and the United States. The English and American selection started with the two dogs bred by the Samoyedi: the "Bear type" and the "Wolf type". The authorship of the breed was first assigned to England, then passed to Northern Russia and Siberia, under the patronage of the Nordic Kennel Union (NKU).
Medium-sized dog; spitz type. In its appearance the breed clearly demonstrates its Nordic origins. It is certainly one of the most showy breeds of Group 5. the particularity of the breed is certainly its straight and rough, thick and dense white coat. Even its particular brush tail is a peculiarity of the breed. Trunk quite collected, but well related to the different parts of the body.
Very affectionate and docile dog; quite independent like all Nordic dogs. Of all the Nordic breeds, it is certainly the most docile. It is a breed that loves being with family and children. It is a breed used today mainly for the company and for the show. He is always nice and always very playful. Stubborn and not very obedient. It is not a breed suitable for everyone. Extremely robust in health. Very long-lived. It is preferable to make it live in the garden.
