Breeds of dogs: Polish Hound

Origin, classification and history

Origin: Poland.
F.C.I classification: Group 6 - hounds and dogs by blood trail.

All we know about the origins of the Polish Hound (Polnische Bracke - Ogar Polski) is that it derives from Polish autochthonous Hounds that were crossed with the "Bloodhound". In the language of the ancient Polish hunters it was called "Podzary" (burnt), for its characteristic color. Its spread is good in Poland, while outside of this country it is considered a very rare breed.

General aspect

Medium sized dog. The "Boolhound" is very reminiscent in appearance. It is a breed of very strong and compact construction. Its bone structure is powerful, it is relatively massive. His limbs are well proportioned. Its appearance expresses more power and endurance than speed. Fascinating breed for many morphological aspects.

It is a dual-purpose breed, since it is used for hunting and for research on the trail of blood. It is a very balanced breed, very fond of its owner. He always shows himself docile and affectionate. He can also be very sweet with children. If he is assured of the right daily physical exercise, he can live without any problems at home. Breed quite resistant.
