Origin, classification and history
Origin: Great Britain.
F.C.I classification: Group 7 - standing dogs.
The Gordon Setter is a breed created in the mid-19th century. It seems it was born from the cross between an "English Setter" and a "Collie". According to various authors, the "Irish Setter" and the "Bloodhound" or "Chien of Saint-Ubert" also participated in the formation of the breed. Forms there is also of the blood of "Pointer". Its name derives from that of the Dukes of Richmond-Gordon, who created the breed.
Medium-sized British set dog. This setter is much more massive and heavier than the "English Setter". This absolutely must not remember the "English Setter" in the general construction. It is built for the gallop and its structure must remember the hunting horse (Hunter).
Compared to its English namesake, it is slightly quieter. It is a generic set dog. At work he is less fast and his pace is less extended than the other setters. He can also be an excellent companion dog. He has a superb sense of smell and a certain attitude to the role of guard dog. Rather wary of strangers. Breed that has no particular problems. In this breed there is sometimes a hip dysplasia, so it is advisable to have the breeding checked. It can live both at home and in the garden.
