Origin and diffusion
It is an ancient breed with very representative signs of the Prisca Goat, on the one hand, and the Nubian goat (African group), on the other, which provided it with the convex profile. The area of occupation of the white Andalusian goat breed extends mainly through the eastern part of the autonomous community of Andalusia, although in practice there is a large part of the Andalusian territory.
The name of Blanca Andaluza is due to the uniform white color of the coat and the geographical area in which it is exploited, mainly in the autonomous community of Andalusia.
Morphological and productive characteristics
The body is covered with strong, white hair. Males often have abundant fur that covers the front third of the body, at the level of the forearm and back (hair or elbow). Males have beards.
- Male: 85-100 kg
- Female: 60-70 kg
The main attitude of the breed is the production of meat in difficult environments. The large size, the high growth rate of the kids, the good yields in the slaughterhouse, the high quality of their meat and the good breastfeeding capacity of the females contribute to this.
Generally the training system used is the extensive one, developed in inaccessible places with difficult orography, with the extremotypical climate of the Andalusian mountain areas. Although there are a fair number of good sized herds (400-600 goats), the sizes of the herds are generally small (less than 100 breeders) and often this goat is present in mixed herds of goats and sheep.
