Colombo selected starting from the original Italian type (brought to France in all probability by Italian workers who emigrated) with the help of insertions of pigeons of other breeds. This has led to the creation of a very different animal, officially named by the European Federation of French-style Sottobanca, while the simple name Sottobanca ”was reserved for the original Italian pigeon.

Large and short Colombo of above average size, proud bearing and slightly inclined body. Strong and well-built body. The length, from the tip of the beak to the end of the tail, varies for males between 40 and 42 centimeters, for females between 39 and 40 centimeters. The height varies between 26 and 27 centimeters. Approximate weight of 800 grams for males and 700 grams for females. It is considered advisable to keep the weight within these limits, in order to preserve the good reproductive aptitudes of this pigeon.
All well-defined cloaks are allowed.
