Production area

Production area: Province of Vicenza, municipalities of: Salcedo, Fara Vicentino, Breganze, Mason, Molvena; Pianezze, Marostica, Bassano, limited to the territory that extends to the orographic right of the Brenta river and finally in part of the territory of the municipality of Schiavon.

Features

The "Ciliegia di Marostica PGI" has a heart-shaped shape, is equipped with a peduncle and has a caliber of between 21 and 30 mm.
It is characterized by a medium firm peel and flesh, ranging in color from pink to dark red, juicy, with a full, sweet and very pleasant taste. It is a precious fruit from a nutritional and healthy point of view. It is rich in mineral salts (potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc), in vitamins (especially A and C) of polyphenols, and in sugars well tolerated also by diabetics.

Article 1
Name
The protected geographical indication Ciliegia di Marostica is reserved for cherry fruits that meet the conditions and requirements established by EEC regulation no. 2081/92 and indicated in this production specification.

Article 2
Varietal platform
The name Ciliegia di Marostica refers to the fruits obtained from the cultivation of the following varieties:
a) very early Sandra and Francese, the latter attributable to the Bigareaux, Moreaux and Burlat varieties;
b) medium early Roana and early Roman corn;
c) late duracine: Milanese, Durone Rosso (similar railway) and Bella Italia;
d) Sandra Tardiva;
and also the Van varieties; Giorgia; Railroad; Durone Nero I; Durone Nero II; Mora di Cazzano; Ulster.

Article 3
Production area
The production area of ​​Ciliegia di Marostica includes the territories of the following municipalities in the province of Vicenza: Salcedo, Fara Vicentino, Breganze, Mason, Molvena, Pianezze, Marostica, Bassano, limited to the territory that extends to the hydrographic right of the Brenta River and finally the part of the territory of the municipality of Schiavon thus delimited: to the east of the state road for Vicenza the portion north of via Olmi up to via Vegra; to the west of the state road for Vicenza the portion north of via Roncaglia Vecchia.

Article 4
Cultivation environment and cultivation technique
The cultivation environment and the cultivation technique for the production of Marostica cherry are as follows:
land: the land must be located in the production area referred to in art. 3 with the exception of the flat ones not drained;
Soil preparation: the preparation of the land for the plant must be carried out with suitable processing of the affected surface. On hilly land, at least the execution of a localized hole-work process is mandatory, with minimum dimensions of the same of 1.0 x 1.0 x 1.0 meters. It is mandatory to carry out chemical-physical analyzes of the soil subject to planting to be carried out according to the official methods of chemical analysis of the soil in order to predetermine the need and quantity of any underlying fertilizations;
implant: only the use of rods inserted on Prunus Avium is allowed. The use of both rods grafted with the varieties referred to in art. 2 and the grafting of the wild with the same varieties;
form of breeding: all forms of breeding are allowed both in volume and on the wall. For shapes in volume, the foliage must take a mono / poly conical or truncated / conical shape, with base (s) at the lower end. The plants must in any case meet the following other requirements:
the crowns of contiguous trees must be separated from each other, that is, without the presence of intersections between their branches;
absence of internal drying in the foliage;
density and distribution of the branches must be such as to guarantee illumination and aeration of the whole crown of the trees;
for new plants, the sixths must not be less than the following minimum widths: 4.00 meters on the row and 4.00 meters between the rows;
varietal association: the distribution of the varieties in the plant must be related to the time of flowering and maturation of the same, preparing the new plants for homogeneous varietal blocks for the period of flowering and maturation of the varieties included in the same varietal block or variety association ;
phytosanitary defense: in order to safeguard and protect the local beekeeping heritage:
pesticide interventions during the flowering phase are strictly prohibited;
before carrying out any interventions, the grass must be shredded or the mowing and collection of the same. Plant health protection must in any case be implemented according to the criteria of integrated defense. For the preventive containment of the risk of Monilia infections on flowers, pruning of aeration of the crowns and the elimination from the trees of any uncollected productions is mandatory;
collection and conditioning: the cherry picking must be done by hand, placing the product in containers with rigid walls. Already on the farm, the cherries must be sorted to eliminate the waste fruit and with insufficient size. Until the time of delivery for marketing, the fruits must in any case be kept in cool and shaded places to avoid loss of quality and shelf life. If the production is not marketed within 48 hours, the fruits must also be cooled with the hydrocooling technique.

Article 5
Controls
The plants suitable for the production of the I.G.P. Marostica cherries are entered in a special list activated, kept and updated by the control body referred to in art. 10, paragraph 2, of Regulation (EEC) no. 2081/92.
The producer or associative body must communicate to the control body the indicative start date of the collection ten days before the same occurs.
Within thirty days from the end of the harvest, the producer must submit a final annual production report to the control body.
Similarly, at the end of the marketing period, the packer must submit a final complaint to the control body.

Article 6
Product characteristics
Qualitative characteristics: the qualitative characteristics of the product must be, except for the size, those corresponding to category I established by the Community marketing standards.
Calibration: calibration is determined by the maximum diameter of the section normal to the fruit axis. Cherries must have a minimum size of 20 mm.
Coloring: the coloring of marketable fruits must generally be:
- fire red / dark red for cherries belonging to the following varieties: French, Sandra, Durone red, Milanese, Ferrovia, Mora di Cazzano, Romana;
- dark red for the other varieties.
Tolerances: a tolerance in calibration and coloring of 10% in number or weight of cherries that do not meet the above characteristics is allowed.

Article 7
packing
General provisions relating to the presentation
To be accepted for consumption, the cherries must be packaged in a special container (made of wood, plastic, cardboard or other suitable material) with a capacity of the minimum marketable unit equal to a maximum of 10 kg of product.
Homogeneity
The content of each package must be homogeneous and include only cherries of equal variety and quality. The size of the fruit must be homogeneous. In addition, the cherries must have uniform coloring and ripening.
The visible part of the contents of the packaging must be representative of the whole.
Conditioning
The materials used inside the packaging must be new, clean and of substances that cannot cause external or internal alterations of the products. The use of materials and in particular of papers or brands bearing commercial indications must be carried out only with printing or labeling made with non-toxic ink or glue. The packaging must be free of any foreign body. Outside each packaging, the following indications must be affixed with direct indication or with a special label: MAROSTIC CHERRY - I.G.P. moreover, in the same visual field, the details to identify:
- name, business name and address of the packer;
- date of packaging.
The logo below must also be inserted, depicting a pantone red cherry 032C with peduncle, pantone 361C green, with pantone 404C gray leaf, superimposed on a medieval tower representing a piece of the chess game chessboard, pantone gray color 404C, on a white background and with the inscription on the margins the writing Ciliegia di Marostica Ciliegia IGP, font type Helvetica, of pantone red color 032C; the size of the drawings size 9x7 cm and 3x4 cm of the logo, the font size for large labels 28/29 points, for small labels 11/12 points, for the dimensions the logo affixed to the packaging must respect the height ratio / base equal to 1.2.
